A 2-Ingredient Marinade That Doubles as a Sauce

When it comes to cooking, simplicity often leads to the most flavorful dishes. One of the easiest ways to elevate your meals is with a marinade that also serves as a sauce. This versatile 2-ingredient marinade is perfect for meats, vegetables, and even tofu. It enhances the flavor during cooking and can be drizzled over your dish once it’s ready. Best of all, it’s quick to prepare and guarantees that your meal will be full of bold and savory flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 120 ml soy sauce
  • 60 ml honey

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl or jar, combine the soy sauce and honey. Stir or shake to ensure they are well mixed. The soy sauce brings a salty umami flavor, while the honey adds a sweet balance, creating the perfect combination for both marinating and glazing.
  2. Marinate the Protein or Vegetables: For meats like chicken, pork, or beef, place your choice of protein in a resealable bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the protein, making sure it’s fully coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for deeper flavor. If you’re marinating vegetables or tofu, follow the same steps and allow them to marinate for about 15 minutes.
  3. Cook and Use as a Sauce: Cook your marinated ingredients as desired—grilling, baking, or pan-searing all work well. As the food cooks, brush the marinade on top to create a rich, sticky glaze. The marinade thickens slightly as it cooks, making it an ideal sauce to drizzle over your dish when serving.
  4. Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, drizzle any remaining marinade sauce over the top of your dish for an added burst of flavor. This marinade works wonderfully with rice, noodles, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Why It Works:

This simple 2-ingredient marinade is all about balance. The soy sauce offers a deep, savory richness that complements the natural flavors of the ingredients, while the honey creates a glossy finish and a touch of sweetness. Together, they form a marinade that doubles as a sauce, eliminating the need for extra steps or additional ingredients.

Whether you’re preparing a weeknight dinner or a special gathering, this marinade will become a go-to in your recipe rotation. With its ease of preparation and delicious outcome, it’s a perfect solution for anyone looking to create a flavorful dish with minimal effort.
