Black Forest Cake, with its layers of rich chocolate cake, luscious whipped cream, and tart cherries, is a timeless dessert that never fails to impress. Originating from the Black Forest region of Germany, this indulgent treat has become a favorite worldwide. While it may seem daunting to recreate this masterpiece at home, fear not! With this easy-to-follow recipe, you’ll be able to whip up a homemade Black Forest Cake that rivals any bakery creation.

Ingredients:

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Cherry Filling:

  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling

For the Whipped Cream Frosting:

  • 2 cups heavy cream, chilled
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Decoration (Optional):

  • Chocolate shavings or curls
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the Chocolate Cake: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract, and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  3. Bake the Cake Layers: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Cherry Filling: While the cakes are cooling, spoon the cherry pie filling into a bowl and gently stir to break up any large chunks.
  5. Make the Whipped Cream Frosting: In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. Assemble the Cake: Once the cake layers are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream frosting over the top of the cake layer, followed by a layer of cherry pie filling. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream frosting.
  7. Decorate the Cake: Garnish the top of the cake with chocolate shavings or curls and maraschino cherries, if desired. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Slice the Black Forest Cake into generous portions and serve with a dollop of whipped cream on the side, if desired. Enjoy the decadent combination of chocolate, cherries, and cream!

Tips:

  • For an extra touch of elegance, brush each cake layer with a tablespoon of cherry liqueur before adding the cherry filling.
  • Ensure that the heavy cream is well chilled before whipping to achieve the best results.
  • Store any leftover cake in the refrigerator, tightly covered, for up to 3 days.

With this delightful Black Forest Cake recipe in your repertoire, you’ll be able to treat yourself and your loved ones to a taste of indulgence anytime you desire. So, roll up your sleeves, gather your ingredients, and embark on a journey of baking bliss with this classic dessert!
