Fettuccine Alfredo is a rich, creamy pasta dish that’s a favorite comfort food for many. It’s simple to make, requires just a few ingredients, and can be prepared in under 30 minutes. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make this delicious dish at home.

Ingredients:

  • 250g fettuccine pasta
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Extra Parmesan for serving (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cook the Fettuccine Pasta Start by boiling a large pot of salted water. Add the fettuccine pasta and cook according to the package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes for al dente. Once done, drain the pasta, reserving about 1/2 cup of the cooking water. This will help the sauce adhere to the noodles later.

2. Prepare the Alfredo Sauce While the pasta is cooking, prepare the Alfredo sauce. In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. If you’re using garlic, add it now and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Next, pour in the heavy cream, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.

3. Add the Cheese Once the cream has thickened, slowly add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the cheese has melted completely and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Combine the Pasta and Sauce Add the drained fettuccine pasta to the skillet with the sauce, tossing to coat the noodles evenly. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency.

5. Serve and Garnish Serve the fettuccine Alfredo immediately, garnished with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan cheese if desired. This dish pairs perfectly with a side of garlic bread or a simple green salad.

Tips:

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor. Pre-grated cheese may not melt as smoothly.
  • For added richness, you can substitute part of the cream with milk, but the cream gives the sauce its signature velvety texture.
  • To make the dish even more indulgent, consider adding cooked chicken, shrimp, or vegetables like broccoli.

Fettuccine Alfredo is a quick and satisfying meal that’s perfect for a cozy dinner at home. Enjoy!
