Instructions

1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture:

  • In a shallow dish, combine the brewed espresso, coffee liqueur, and sugar (if using). Set aside to cool completely.

2. Make the Mascarpone Mixture:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  • Using an electric mixer, whip the mixture on medium speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip; you want a smooth and creamy texture.

3. Assemble the Tiramisu:

  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Lay the dipped ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of your serving dish (a clear trifle dish or individual glass cups work great for presentation).
  • Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out with a spatula.

4. Chill:

  • Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the tiramisu to set properly.

5. Serve and Garnish:

  • Before serving, dust the top generously with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve. For an extra touch, add dark chocolate shavings or coffee beans on top.
