The Taste Master SA, one of South Africa’s leading reality cooking competitions, returns for its sixth season on Tuesday, 13 May at 19:30 on SABC 2. The new season will showcase a fresh group of contestants, a broader range of culinary challenges, and an expanded panel of guest judges.
Clover has come on board as the headline sponsor for Season 6, with Food Lover’s Market serving as the category sponsor for fresh produce. The show continues to highlight local culinary talent, creativity, and homegrown ingredients.
Renowned chef and television personality Zola Nene takes the lead judging role this season. Known for her approachable style and expertise, Nene will mentor the ten contestants as they take on weekly challenges that test their cooking and baking skills. She will be joined in each episode by rotating guest judges including her mother, Chef Anwar Abdullatief, as well as Daniel Blignaut, Nathan Clarke and other notable figures in the South African food industry.
Season 6 marks a return to the show’s original format, focusing equally on savoury and sweet dishes. After two seasons dedicated to baking, the competition will once again test contestants’ versatility in the kitchen with a wide range of cooking challenges.
“This season is not just about skills—it’s about storytelling through food,” said Zola Nene. “We have incredible contestants, amazing guest judges, and challenges that will truly push creativity to the edge.”
The winning contestant will receive a prize package that includes R200,000 from Capitec, along with other prizes aimed at helping them take their culinary careers to the next level.
Cardova Productions Managing Director Patience Stevens says Season 6 is filled with fresh energy and new talent. “This new chapter is packed with fresh faces, big flavours and unforgettable moments. We’re thrilled to bring it to life on screen,” she said.
Yonwaba Pangeni, Head of Channel at SABC 2, said the show continues to serve as a platform that promotes local talent. “This show not only entertains – it uplifts, educates, and highlights the incredible culinary talent in South Africa.”
Chipo Kamukwamba, Brand Manager at Clover, echoed this sentiment. “As a proudly South African brand, Clover is passionate about supporting platforms that champion local talent and celebrate creativity through food.”
Travis Coppin, CEO of Food Lover’s Market Retail, added: “We want to inspire creativity in the kitchen by offering fantastic value and a wide range of fresh and grocery ingredients. Whether a home cook or a TV contestant, we’re proud that we can offer everything needed to make a meal both delicious and affordable.”
