Vegan cheeseburgers have come a long way from being bland, sad alternatives to the real thing. Today, they’re packed with flavor, texture, and creativity, proving that plant-based versions can be just as delicious as their meat counterparts. Whether you’re a seasoned vegan or just looking to try something new, these five vegan cheeseburger recipes will blow your mind and satisfy your cravings!

1. Classic Vegan Cheeseburger with a Mushroom Patty

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cooked lentils
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegan cheese slices
  • Burger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and your favorite condiments

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor, pulse the mushrooms and cooked lentils until finely chopped. Transfer to a bowl.
  2. Stir in the breadcrumbs, onion, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients come together to form a dough-like consistency.
  3. Shape the mixture into patties.
  4. Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, until crispy and golden brown.
  5. Toast your burger buns, place a patty on the bottom bun, add a slice of vegan cheese, and let it melt.
  6. Top with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and your favorite condiments for a classic burger experience!

2. BBQ Chickpea Vegan Cheeseburger

Ingredients:

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and mashed
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegan cheese slices
  • Burger buns
  • Red onion, lettuce, and tomato for topping

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mash the chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until smooth but with some texture remaining.
  2. Stir in the grated carrot, breadcrumbs, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form the mixture into patties and cook them in a pan over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of vegan cheese on top to melt.
  5. Assemble the burger by placing the patty on the bun and topping with red onion, lettuce, tomato, and a drizzle of extra BBQ sauce.

3. Spicy Black Bean Vegan Cheeseburger

Ingredients:

  • 1 can black beans, drained and mashed
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegan cheese slices
  • Burger buns
  • Avocado, lettuce, and sriracha sauce for topping

Instructions:

  1. Mash the black beans in a large bowl, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Stir in the cornmeal, onion, jalapeño, cumin, chili powder, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  3. Shape into patties and cook in a hot pan for 3-4 minutes per side until crispy.
  4. Add a slice of vegan cheese in the last minute of cooking to melt.
  5. Serve with avocado, lettuce, and a drizzle of sriracha sauce for an extra kick.

4. Sweet Potato and Black Bean Vegan Cheeseburger

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sweet potato, cooked and mashed
  • 1/2 cup black beans, mashed
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped spinach
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegan cheese slices
  • Burger buns
  • Sliced tomato, lettuce, and mustard for topping

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the mashed sweet potato, black beans, oats, spinach, smoked paprika, soy sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into patties and cook them in a lightly oiled pan for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  3. Add a slice of vegan cheese in the last minute of cooking to melt.
  4. Assemble the burger with tomato, lettuce, mustard, and the sweet potato patty on your bun.

5. Lentil and Quinoa Vegan Cheeseburger

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked lentils
  • 1/2 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed (mixed with 6 tbsp water)
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegan cheese slices
  • Burger buns
  • Spinach, pickles, and ketchup for topping

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cooked lentils, cooked quinoa, onion, ground flaxseed mixture, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
  2. Shape into patties and cook in a pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  3. Add a slice of vegan cheese during the last minute of cooking.
