5 Delicious Dips to Elevate Your Chips

Chips are great on their own, but the right dip can take them to the next level. Whether you’re hosting a party, enjoying a movie night, or just craving a snack, these five dips will make your chips even more irresistible.

1. Guacamole

A classic favorite, guacamole brings a creamy, flavorful touch to your chips. Made with ripe avocados, lime juice, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and a hint of salt, this dip offers a perfect balance of freshness and richness. For extra heat, add diced jalapeños.

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe avocados (about 400 g)
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped (70 g)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced (150 g)
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely chopped (optional, 15 g)
  • 15 g fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 30 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh into a bowl.
  2. Mash the avocados with a fork until smooth or leave it slightly chunky if preferred.
  3. Stir in the chopped onion, tomato, jalapeño (if using), and cilantro.
  4. Add the lime juice and salt, then mix well.
  5. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.

2. Salsa

Salsa comes in many varieties, from mild to spicy, and can be made with different ingredients. The most common is a tomato-based salsa with onions, cilantro, lime juice, and chili peppers. You can also try fruit-based salsas like mango or pineapple for a sweet and tangy twist.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium tomatoes, diced (600 g)
  • ½ small red onion, finely chopped (50 g)
  • 1 small green chili, finely chopped (optional, 10 g)
  • 15 g fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime (30 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (1 g)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, onion, chili, and cilantro.
  2. Add the lime juice, salt, and black pepper, then mix well.
  3. Let the salsa sit for at least 10 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

3. Queso Dip

This creamy cheese dip is a must-have for cheese lovers. Made with melted cheese, milk, and a touch of spice from jalapeños or chili powder, queso dip is warm, gooey, and perfect for dipping crispy chips. Add ground beef or chorizo for an even heartier version.

Ingredients

  • 200 g cheddar cheese, grated
  • 100 g mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 250 ml whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter (15 g)
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely chopped (optional, 15 g)
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (1 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (1.5 g)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add the chopped jalapeño and cook for 1-2 minutes until softened.
  3. Pour in the milk and slowly add the cheeses, stirring continuously.
  4. Once melted, add the chili powder and salt. Stir until smooth.
  5. Serve warm with tortilla chips.

4. French Onion Dip

A rich and savory dip made from caramelized onions mixed into a base of sour cream and mayonnaise. This dip is smooth, slightly tangy, and packed with deep onion flavor. It pairs well with classic potato chips and is a great addition to any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced (400 g)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (30 g)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
  • 250 g sour cream
  • 125 g mayonnaise
  • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (1 g)

Instructions

  1. Heat the butter and olive oil in a pan over low heat.
  2. Add the onions and cook slowly for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.
  3. Let the onions cool, then mix them into the sour cream and mayonnaise.
  4. Add salt and black pepper, then stir well.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

5. Hummus

For a healthier option, hummus is a fantastic choice. Made from blended chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil, this dip is smooth, creamy, and full of protein. You can also experiment with different flavors like roasted red pepper or spicy sriracha hummus.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (400 g) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (30 g)
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 30 ml)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (10 g)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)
  • 50 ml water

Instructions

  1. Add the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and salt to a food processor.
  2. Blend while slowly adding the olive oil and water until smooth.
  3. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Serve with pita chips or tortilla chips.
