Air-Fried Calamari Recipe

Calamari is a popular seafood dish, often deep-fried, crispy, and served as an appetizer. Using an air fryer reduces oil, making it healthier while keeping it crunchy. This air-fried calamari recipe is easy, quick, and perfect for home cooking.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams calamari rings
  • 60 grams all-purpose flour
  • 60 grams cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Cooking spray or a small amount of oil

Instructions

1. Prepare the calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Drying them helps achieve a crisp coating.

2. Mix the dry ingredients
Combine flour, cornflour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Mix well to distribute the spices evenly.

3. Coat the calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, then dredge in the flour mixture. Ensure each ring is fully coated.

4. Preheat the air fryer
Set the air fryer to 200°C and preheat for 3–5 minutes. Preheating ensures even cooking and crispiness.

5. Air-fry the calamari
Place the coated calamari rings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Lightly spray with cooking oil. Cook for 8–10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The calamari should be golden brown and crispy.

6. Serve
Serve immediately with lemon wedges, garlic aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce. Fresh herbs like parsley can add extra flavor.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed.
  • Patting the calamari dry before coating ensures crispiness.
  • Adjust seasoning in the flour mix to your taste.

Air-fried calamari offers a healthier alternative to deep-fried versions without sacrificing texture or flavor. It is a quick appetizer for gatherings or a satisfying snack for seafood lovers.
