The burrito is a Mexican-inspired dish that has taken the world by storm, thanks to its versatility and bold flavors. A spicy burrito wrap is an exciting twist on this classic, packing a punch of heat along with satisfying fillings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making the perfect spicy burrito wrap right at home.

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, beef, or tofu (shredded or cubed)
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup cooked rice (preferably seasoned with lime and cilantro)
  • 1/2 cup corn (optional)
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the spicy sauce:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1-2 tablespoons hot sauce (like Sriracha or chipotle sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Pinch of smoked paprika

Other ingredients:

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions:

Prepare the filling:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Toss in the chopped onions, bell pepper, and jalapeño. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  • Add the shredded chicken, beef, or tofu. Stir in the black beans, corn, smoked paprika, cumin, and chili powder. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.

Make the spicy sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix the sour cream or Greek yogurt with hot sauce, lime juice, and smoked paprika. Adjust the level of hot sauce to suit your spice tolerance. Set aside.

Assemble the burrito:

  • Warm the tortillas on a skillet or in the microwave for a few seconds to make them easier to roll.
  • Spread a spoonful of the spicy sauce onto each tortilla.
  • Add a layer of seasoned rice, followed by the cooked filling mixture. Top with shredded cheese, guacamole, and fresh cilantro.
  • Fold the sides of the tortilla inward, then roll it up tightly from the bottom, tucking the edges as you go to form a neat burrito.

Toast the burrito (optional):

  • For an extra-crispy wrap, toast the rolled burritos on a dry skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp.

Serve:

  • Slice the burrito in half and serve with lime wedges on the side. Pair with extra guacamole, salsa, or tortilla chips for the ultimate burrito experience.

Tips for the Perfect Spicy Burrito Wrap:

  • Adjust the spice level: If you want to crank up the heat, add more jalapeños or drizzle extra hot sauce inside the burrito.
  • Customize your fillings: Burritos are endlessly versatile. Add your favorite vegetables, swap in different proteins, or go all-in on beans for a vegetarian option.
  • Rice matters: Flavored rice (like cilantro-lime rice) adds a bright, zesty touch that complements the heat.
  • Double-wrap if needed: If your burrito is too full and hard to roll, use two tortillas to ensure everything stays inside.

The perfect spicy burrito wrap balances savory, spicy, and fresh flavors all in one bite. With this easy recipe, you can enjoy a restaurant-quality burrito wrap in the comfort of your home!
