The campaign draws inspiration from the nostalgic “Thank You Mom” jingle that once filled South African households, now reimagined for a new generation. This time, the revival comes with a challenge: schools across the country are invited to submit their own original Gwijo-style tributes — joyful, spirited songs that reflect the love, gratitude, and energy our moms deserve.
At the centre of the anthem is the Gwijo Squad, who are thrilled to help lead this cultural celebration.

If you’re a student, educator, or anyone who wants to show appreciation to a mother figure, this is your moment. Schools are encouraged to rally their pupils to create and perform a Song for Ma — whether it’s an anthem or war cry, as long as it’s loud, proud, and heartfelt. Get the school involved, dress in full uniform, and bring your energy and school spirit to life.
