Some of the trends are relevant for local audiences while others may require ingredients that are harder to find on South African shelves. In light of this, Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos will be putting a local spin on 3 current TikTok foodie trends, with a health focus so the whole family can enjoy them!

TikTok Trend 1: Pop It!
Using pop-its to make cute yoghurt bark is a popular trend on TikTok. And now the team from Laager Tea4Kidz has taken this snack to the next level, with a local Rooibos twist!

Ingredients for Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos syrup
– 2 Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos teabags
– 250ml boiling water
– 1 ¼ cup granulated sugar
Ingredients for Yoghurt Bark
– 125ml yoghurt
– 15ml Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos Syrup
– 20g Blueberries
– A handful of granola
Method for making Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos syrup
1. Place Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos teabags into a mug with boiling water and allow to brew for 4 minutes.
2. Remove the tea bags and place the brewed tea and sugar into a saucepan.
3. Over a high heat, allow the liquid to boil, then reduce to a low heat and let simmer for 7-10 minutes, ensuring all the sugar has dissolved.
4. Take the saucepan off the heat, and let the syrup cool fully. Store in your desired jar, and enjoy.
Method for making the Yoghurt Bark
1. Place the yoghurt, Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos syrup, blueberries, and granola into a bowl.
2. Mix until all ingredients are combined.
3. Place mixture into a 15-pop silicone mould (scrape the top with the back of a knife to remove any excess).
4. Place in the freezer and leave for at least 2 hours.
5. Remove from the freezer and pop out of the mould.
6. Eat and enjoy, or place into a freezer-proof container and store in the freezer.
Note: If you do not have a mould, you can spread the mix evenly over the lid of a plastic container and place in the freezer for 2 hours. Then remove from the freezer, take the bark off the lid, break into pieces, and enjoy.

Overnight oats recipes are all over TikTok with a variety of twists and flavours for all tastes! Here’s an Overnight Oats recipe with a difference using some homegrown Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos.

Ingredients for the Overnight Oats
– 62 ½ ml hot milk
– 1 Laager Tea4Kidz Peach & Apricot Rooibos teabag (or Laager Tea4Kidz Strawberry Rooibos or Laager Tea4Kidz Apple & Berry Rooibos)
– 125ml oats
– 10ml Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos syrup
– 30ml yoghurt
– 15ml peanut butter
– Fruit for topping (personal choice)

Method for making Overnight Oats
1. Pour the milk into a mug and place it in the microwave until hot to the touch.
2. Place the teabag in the hot milk and let it brew for 4-5 minutes before removing the teabag.
3. Place the oats, milk, syrup, yoghurt, and peanut butter into a glass of your choice.
4. Mix until all ingredients are combined.
5. Place in fridge and leave overnight.
6. Remove from the fridge, add any toppings you desire (can vary with tea flavour), and enjoy!
TikTok Trend 3: Energy Balls
These healthy energy balls have become popular on TikTok as a substitute for sweets and chocolate, offering a healthier energy boost, with some surprising ingredients. This date ball recipe, with added Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos, is the perfect healthy treat for those in the family who have a sweet tooth.
(Serving: 5 energy balls)
Ingredients for date / energy balls
– 70g pitted dates
– 90g peanut butter
– 5ml cocoa powder
– 2½ ml salt
– 10ml cold Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos & Honeybush Tea
– 2ml Vanilla Essence
– 125ml desiccated coconut
– 10 g Marie Biscuits / almonds
– Desiccated coconut / milk chocolate (optional)
Method for making the date / energy balls
1. Place Laager Tea4Kidz Rooibos & Honeybush teabag into a mug with boiling water and allow to brew for 4 minutes.
2. Remove the teabags and let it cool.
3. Place the dates, peanut butter, cocoa powder, salt, 10ml of the tea and Vanilla Essence into a blender until mixed and smooth.
4. Fold in the desiccated coconut until all combined.
5. Crush the Marie biscuits or almonds and fold into the date-coconut blend.
6. Roll the mix to make 5 equal-sized balls.
7. (Optional) Roll the balls in desiccated coconut or melted chocolate to coat the balls.
8. Place balls into a container and store in the fridge.
