Orange-sesame chicken wings are a flavorful twist on a classic appetizer. The combination of citrus, soy, and sesame creates a sticky, tangy glaze that clings perfectly to crispy wings. These wings are ideal for parties, game nights, or a satisfying weeknight dinner. With simple ingredients and easy steps, you can make restaurant-quality wings at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, orange zest and juice, garlic, and ginger. Stir until combined.
  2. Marinate the Wings
Place chicken wings in a large bowl or zip-lock bag. Pour the marinade over the wings, ensuring each piece is coated. Marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2–3 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Cook the Wings
Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Arrange wings in a single layer. Bake for 25–30 minutes, turning halfway, until wings are cooked through and golden.
  4. Make the Glaze
While wings are baking, reserve a few tablespoons of the marinade. Heat in a small saucepan over low heat for 2–3 minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Coat and Serve
Toss baked wings in the reduced glaze. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions. Serve immediately.

Tips for Perfect Orange-Sesame Wings

  • Pat wings dry before marinating for extra crispiness.
  • Turn wings during baking to ensure even caramelization.
  • Adjust sweetness or tang by adding more honey or orange juice.
  • For extra crisp, broil wings for 2–3 minutes at the end.

Serving Suggestions
Orange-sesame wings pair well with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a simple Asian slaw. They also make a standout appetizer for parties or casual gatherings.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Sweet, savory, and tangy flavors balance perfectly.
  • Oven-baking keeps wings less greasy than deep frying while maintaining crispiness.
  • Quick preparation and simple ingredients make it suitable for weeknight cooking.

Orange-sesame chicken wings are a crowd-pleasing dish with bold flavors and crispy texture. The combination of citrus, sesame, and honey elevates classic wings, making them ideal for any occasion, from casual meals to entertaining guests.
