Chocolate chip cookies are a classic treat, and going vegan doesn’t mean you have to miss out on their chewy, gooey goodness. With a few smart ingredient swaps, you can enjoy cookies that are just as delicious as the traditional version. These vegan chocolate chip cookies are soft in the center, crisp on the edges, and packed with melty chocolate chunks. They are also simple to make, requiring everyday pantry staples and no complicated steps.

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 120 g coconut oil or vegan butter, softened
  • 150 g brown sugar
  • 50 g granulated sugar
  • 60 ml plant-based milk (almond, oat, or soy)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 150 g vegan dark chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the coconut oil or vegan butter with the brown and granulated sugars until smooth.
  4. Stir in the plant-based milk and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  6. Fold in the vegan chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Tips for Success

  • For chewier cookies, use more brown sugar than white sugar.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking if you want thicker cookies.
  • Experiment with add-ins like chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or dried fruit.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Vegan chocolate chip cookies are proof that you can enjoy classic comfort foods without dairy or eggs. This recipe delivers the perfect balance of crispy edges and soft, chewy centers while using simple, plant-based ingredients. Whether you’re fully vegan, lactose intolerant, or just curious about plant-based baking, these cookies will quickly become a go-to treat. Bake a batch, share with friends, and enjoy the rich flavor of a cookie that everyone can love.
